Marty's Thanksgiving Feast

Marty's Pre-K Thanksgiving Feast was today. The picture above is of Marty, Mr. Gobbles, and Shelly (the Pre-School director). Here are a few more pictures of the kids doing the "turkey tango", and of Marty showing off his turkey costume, turkey centerpiece, and cornucopia placemat:

I had to work on Friday, but Tyler made it to Eli's Thanksgiving Feast at Pre-school. No pictures of the sing-a-long, but here are some pictures of the two of them playing after the feast (and one from home that I couldn't resist including). In case you are wondering, Eli had a little run-in with a concrete driveway....

Zoo

On Sunday, we went to the Dallas Zoo for the morning. They have a great new exhibit, "Giants of the Savanna," where Marty fed the giraffes. Eli was really upset by this, but didn't seem to mind checking out the lions from behind the glass wall...

"Mom!"

Here's some video of the boys' favorite game, "Scare Eli," which never gets old. Also, I just happened to catch Eli's first "Mom" on video:

"Daddy!"

I had to shoot this video, just to capture Eli's typical response when he sees that Tyler is coming home.

Arboretum

Last Sunday, we met the Segals and Rineharts (sans Dan) at the Arboretum. We were really impressed with the pumpkin houses and the pumpkin pond with the geese gourds. Some pictures of the big kids (Mila, Edward and Marty) and the little kids (Romi, Helen and Eli):

Zoo

Despite having an action-packed Saturday, Marty was ready for more today. Tyler took him to the Dallas Zoo for a couple of hours...

Busy Saturday

Saturday was a big day for Marty. Two of his friends celebrated their birthdays - Ollie and Sam. I only remembered to take my camera to one of them, so here are a few pictures from Sam's Train Party. We rode DART downtown to have pizza and cupcakes at Campisi's, and then we rode DART back to Walnut Hill Station. Everyone had lots of fun!

share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8AZuWzJi4YtWxZ

That evening, we all went to Ollie's Super Hero birthday party. Marty and Eli wore themselves out. When we went to check on Marty at 9:30 last night, this is what we found:

A Very Random Day

Marty has had a little "coughing (with occasional vomiting) bug" for the past couple of days. Even though he seemed like he felt great, I didn't have the nerve to take him to Rosh Hashanah services today. So, we did what any good Jewish family would do in times of uncertainty - we went to North Park. Eli walked the perimeter of the mall, and Marty was happy to hold his hand and lead him. Tyler met us for lunch, and afterward, Marty called out, "Thank you for lunch, Dad! See you soon!"

All that cuteness lasted until dinnertime when Marty started to long for all the things he doesn't have ("Nonna, will you please bring your binoculars to Dallas?"). Meanwhile, Eli turned on the charm of crawling nude through the dog-door. Good times....

Napa Valley

We spent Labor Day weekend in Napa for Karleen and Jared's wedding. The wedding and wedding events were unbelievable, but I don't have pics from those (my camera wouldn't fit in my handbag :). We did get pictures of much of our clan at the Martinelli and Davis Family Wineries on Saturday. On Sunday, we went to Hall Wineries to take a look at their collection of "red" art. We also got a little shopping in at the shops of Yountville.

Marty's 1st Day of Pre-K

Today was Marty's first day of Pre-K. After a full summer of anticipation and discussion, he is thrilled to be in "The Cat in the Hat" class....so, naturally, we've been reading lots of "The Cat in the Hat" and "The Cat in the Hat Comes Back" - thank you, Rush!

Last Birthday Pics

On Marty's last day of camp, he and the other "birthdays of the week" led the prayers. There was also one last "Happy Birthday" song. Eli and I joined him, and Eli tried to blend in with the big kids.

Marty's "Real" Birthday

Today is Marty's "real" birthday. Everyone at camp sang "Happy Birthday" to him in their morning assembly. Then, he and his classmates had cupcakes. After his "quiet time," he opened his present from Tyler, Eli and me. About six months ago, Tyler told him that he couldn't have his own golf clubs until he turned 4. So, the suspense has been building... Right after he opened the clubs and tried on the glove, he and Tyler left for the driving range.

Cashiers, North Carolina

Last week, we were in Cashiers North Carolina with the Joneses, O'Mullans, Waghornes, Elliotts, and Tindells. I didn't get any pictures of our trip to the waterfall, of Marty catching his first fish or of our fabulous hike up Whiteside Mountain. But here are pics from our hike at Lonesome Valley, as well as lots of golf course pics. The pictures do not do justice to how beautiful the scenery is!!!!

Port Aransas

We met Mom, Dad, Will and Hannah in Port Aransas this weekend to celebrate Dad's birthday. No birthday pictures, but lots of beach shots. This was Eli's first time at the beach, and he loved it! On Saturday, the Tumlinsons and Houses joined us - it was Jocelyn's first trip to the beach, too.

Pajama Day?

When I picked Marty up from camp on Tuesday, he announced that "tomorrow is Pajama Day!" I questioned him several times, "are you sure?....did your counselors tell you to wear your pajamas?" There was no email or note-in-the-backpack to confirm Pajama Day, so we decided to roll with it. Marty woke up this morning, took off his pajamas, and put on a fresh pair for Pajama Day. Eli was happy to participate, of course.

OKC

Last weekend, we went to Oklahoma City to meet our dear friends, the Davigs. We had the best time! On the way home, Marty asked, "can we do that again next weekend?" In the first picture, the "big" boys are telling each other good-bye. In the second picture, Gordy, Gracie, Granger, Eli and Marty are posing on the hotel bed.

Memorial Weekend

We had a great time in Port O'Connor this weekend! There were too many fun activities to list, but a couple of highlights: Eli officially started "cruising" and pushing various toys (and pieces of furniture) around; Marty, Sam and Sarah had a blast playing on the inflatable water slide; and, Tyler caught one redfish and a few beers on a grown-up fishing trip! We are all happily tired and really full,. Big thanks to Nonna, Grandad, BeBe and Papa Jay!

Goodbye, Hungry Caterpillars!

Thursday was Marty's last day in the Hungry Caterpillar class at Pre-school. His teachers sent him home with a great DVD of all the pictures they took of the kids throughout the year, as well as his very own set of butterfly wings. Now, we are all counting down to June 14th, when Marty will start camp at the "JJCC"! :)

Camel Riding

On Sunday, we went to the Dallas Zoo for the "Giants of the Savanna" member preview. It was great exhibit. In fact, we enjoyed it with 10,000 other Dallas Zoo members! We forgot to take our camera, but Tyler caught this picture of Marty with his Blackberry. Marty was quite proud of himself, "I roded a camel, and I was so, so brave."

More Bike Riding

Yesterday, Marty was determined to ride his bike "all by myself!" Once he figured it out, he was so proud that he started listing all of the people that we should send the video to...

Riding a Bicycle!

This morning, Marty told Tyler that he wanted to ride the Spiderman bike that Ryan gave him. He needed a little help getting started, but he was able to ride some on his own - as long as Tyler reminded him to keep looking forward!

McDonald's with Ellen & Alla

Marty andIsabella were the high bidders on "time with your teachers" in the Preschool Auction. Yesterday, they had their date with Ellen and Alla at McDonald's. On a side note, Tyler brought the "Arizona" t-shirt to Marty after his golfing weekend. Marty wore this shirt for four days in a row (with me sneaking it away at night to wash). Thankfully, he agreed to wear his Shabbat t-shirt to school today!

Happy Birthday (again) to Eli!:

share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8AZuWzJi4YtWuD

Thank you to Auntie Hannah and Uncle Will for coming to Dallas to celebrate and thanks to Auntie Hannah for making the monkey birthday cake! We all enjoyed it, but Eli wasn't so sure.... He especially didn't like having cake on his hands. Maybe he's his mother's son, after all!

Birthday Weekend I

Last weekend, SuSu and Pop and the O'Mullans came to Dallas. It also happened to be Marty's turn to take "Misha" home for the weekend. Misha is the Russian bear mascot from Marty's preschool class. He was supposed to take Misha wherever he went, as well as play the counting game that was in him backpack. On Saturday, everyone went to Marty's soccer game, and then we came home to celebrate birthdays. We had an early birthday celebration for Eli and Molly, as well as a belated celebration for Ryan and SuSu. On Sunday, we took Misha to the American Girl store, where Molly picked up a bicycle for her doll, Julie. On Sunday afternoon, we took Misha on the McKinney Avenue trolley.
